The distance from the bed to the water here is counted in steps and not in miles. Seascape puts a bedroom and a bathroom at ground level, keeps an enclosed garden behind, and finishes that garden with a gate through onto the beach. Four people sleep at Pevensey Bay here, dog friendly, one dog allowed, and for an animal that has given up on stairs and never liked the car, the arrangement is difficult to beat. The Levels lie behind the road.

A king in one room and a twin in the other, one bathroom, the ground floor doing most of the work. The garden is enclosed with furniture in it and a lawn beyond. The gate is what people remember, though the enclosure matters more day to day: a dog goes out, stays out, and only reaches shingle when somebody decides to open it.

The cottage next door can be booked alongside when eight people want to travel as one party, worth establishing before a family ends up split between two villages. Alone it is a small beach house for four and a dog. You get up, open a gate, and the day has started on shingle before the kettle finishes.

Pevensey Castle stands a mile inland, Roman walls with a Norman keep dropped inside them, which is a long time for one site to go on being useful. East of the village the shingle runs unbroken to Cooden and then Bexhill, with sea on one side and marsh drains on the other and hardly anybody on it outside high summer. One dog can be walked in a straight line for as long as the legs hold out.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Seascape - Pevensey dog friendly?

Yes, Seascape welcomes one dog. The setup is particularly well suited to dogs — there's an enclosed garden where they can roam freely, and a gate at the bottom that opens directly onto the beach, so no car journeys or long walks to reach the water.

  • Are dogs allowed at Seascape - Pevensey year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, and with a private enclosed garden and direct beach access, the cottage is designed with dogs in mind throughout the year. That said, it's always worth confirming directly with the owner when you book.

  • What should I know before visiting Seascape - Pevensey with my dog?

Only one dog is permitted at Seascape, so it's not the right fit for multi-dog households. The enclosed garden means your dog can be outside safely without needing to be watched constantly, and the gate through to the shingle beach is the real draw — east of the village the beach runs unbroken toward Bexhill with very little foot traffic outside summer, making it ideal for a long off-the-lead walk.
