Opinan is a small village on the coast near Gairloch, and Seashell Lodge stands above it with the sea spread out in front. It is a dog friendly lodge for five with two dogs welcome, all on one level, and Opinan's own beach is just down the road.

The lodge sits high enough that the view goes a long way out to sea from the private deck, and that is where the first coffee goes. Round the lodge the garden is fenced, with a patio, a table and chairs and a barbecue, so the dogs can be let out to take stock of the place while the car is still being emptied. Treats and extras for the dogs are waiting inside.

Indoors, the kitchen, dining table and sofas share one open plan room, and off it are two double bedrooms, a single, and a shower room, and a utility room for sandy towels. It is a compact, well kept lodge, and it suits a family or a few friends who plan to spend their days outdoors. The evenings are the reward: dogs fed and dozing, the light lasting late over the water, and nothing between the lodge and the horizon.

Opinan beach is a short walk, pale sand at the foot of the village, and the long sweep of Big Sand and the beach at Gairloch are both close for more miles on the shore with the dogs. Gairloch is known for its wildlife, and boat trips go out from the harbour to look for seals, dolphins and seabirds along this stretch of Wester Ross.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Seashell Lodge dog friendly?

Yes, Seashell Lodge welcomes up to two dogs. The garden is enclosed so your dogs can roam freely outside, and there are treats and extras waiting for them inside when you arrive.

  • Are dogs allowed at Seashell Lodge year round?

The listing doesn't specify seasonal restrictions on dogs, but we'd recommend contacting the property directly to confirm availability and any conditions around your dates.

  • What should I know before visiting Seashell Lodge with my dog?

The lodge accepts a maximum of two dogs, and the garden is fenced so they can settle in safely while you unpack. There's a utility room for sandy towels and wet gear, which is handy given how close the beaches are — Opinan beach is a short walk, with Big Sand and Gairloch beach also nearby for longer stretches with the dogs.
