Four dogs is a generous allowance for an island house, and Serena has been set up to cope with them. It is a detached, dog friendly house for seven at Ryde on the Isle of Wight, three bedrooms and three bathrooms, with views over the Solent from the back and the seafront a few minutes' walk away.

The dog end of the arrangement starts outside. There is a hose for rinsing sand off, and a shower room on the ground floor, so everybody comes in through the same routine and nobody walks the beach upstairs. Behind the house is a large lawn, fenced all round, with a decked area off the sun room, a barbecue, furniture and a big trampoline, and there are four steps down within it, which a young dog will take at a run and an old one will want time for.

There are two living rooms, one on each floor, so seven people and four dogs can split into two camps for the evening. The ground floor has the kitchen with its breakfast bar and two fridge freezers, the utility and the sun room, which opens onto the decking and is where the dogs choose to lie. Upstairs the second sitting room looks out across the water, where ferries, freighters and the odd warship go up and down the shipping lane.

Appley is a short stroll away, a park running down to a long stretch of sand where dogs can be walked with the view across to Portsmouth and the Spinnaker Tower. The seafront carries on east towards Seaview and Priory Bay, and the rest of the island is a morning's drive in any direction.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Serena dog friendly?

Yes — Serena welcomes up to four dogs, which is a generous allowance for a holiday house. The property has been set up with dogs genuinely in mind, from the enclosed garden to the outdoor hose for rinsing off after the beach.

  • Are dogs allowed at Serena year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs at Serena. For confirmation of availability and any specific terms around your dates, it's worth checking directly with the property.

  • What should I know before visiting Serena with my dog?

The garden is fully fenced, which is great for keeping dogs secure, though do be aware there are four steps within it that older or less mobile dogs may need a little time to navigate. There's an outdoor hose and a ground floor shower room, so the expectation is that dogs are rinsed down after beach trips before coming inside — a sensible routine that keeps sandy paws from making it upstairs. Appley Park, a short stroll away, offers a long stretch of sand where dogs can be walked year round.
