Wensley Station, North Yorkshire
A five star three bedroom house for six beside the Wensleydale Railway with three en-suites, a large enclosed garden, a hot tub and two wood burners, one dog welcome.
Wensley Station is not a village. It is a station, or was: a stop on the Wensleydale Railway with the station master's house beside the platform and not much else. It is now a five star holiday let for six with a large fully enclosed garden, dog friendly, one dog allowed, and two of the three bedrooms still look out over the line. Steam trains run on it.
One room forms the middle of the house, double height with a glass wall and bi-folding doors along it, so the light comes in as though the place had been designed for it, which it was not. A wood burner sits at the lounge end and a second in the snug next door. The ground floor is heated from under the stone, so a dog coming in off the garden meets warmth the whole way.
All three bedrooms have a bathroom to themselves, which works for three couples as easily as one family. The ground floor twin zips into a super king and keeps a shower room, so nobody need take the stairs. The other two are super kings above, one with a freestanding bath. One dog is the limit, and the garden is lawn, stone terraces, a hot tub, a summer house and lights over the lot.
Wensleydale is the broadest of the dales and the only one named after a village instead of a river. That village is half a mile up the road. Bolton Castle stands 4 miles west, a square keep where Mary Queen of Scots was held for six months, one corner of it fallen since the Civil War. Penhill rises opposite, and dogs have open access on the moor above the castle.

Is Station House dog friendly?
Yes, Station House welcomes dogs — one dog is allowed per stay. The large enclosed garden is a real bonus, giving your dog room to roam safely, and the underfloor heating throughout the ground floor means they'll come in from outside to warmth straight away.
Are dogs allowed at Station House year round?
The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's best to check directly with the owner when booking to confirm availability for your dates. Given the enclosed garden, hot tub and wood burners, it's a pretty appealing base whatever the season.
What should I know before visiting Station House with my dog?
The key thing to note is that only one dog is permitted at Station House, so it's not the place for a multi-dog household. The garden is fully enclosed, which is great for peace of mind, and if you're planning walks nearby, dogs have open access on the moor above Bolton Castle, just four miles away.
