Logs for the wood burner are included, and so is a dog cage, which is not something most owners think to leave. Stepping Stone Cottage is a detached, dog friendly cottage for four at Bacton on the north Norfolk coast, with two kingsize bedrooms, a welcome pack on arrival, extras put by for the dogs, and two of them allowed on the booking.

The garden is at the back, a lawn with a fence round it and a patio with a barbecue, and it takes the last of the evening light. Two dogs can be let out of the back door and left to it while the kettle boils. There is a utility room with the washing machine for whatever comes back off the beach, and a separate toilet downstairs, so the sandy end of the day stays on the ground floor.

This is a house for grown ups. It is not let to families with children, and the two bedrooms upstairs are both kingsize with their own televisions, sharing a walk-in shower between them. Evenings belong to the living room and the burner, a dog stretched along the hearth rug, and nobody needing to be anywhere before morning.

The sand at Bacton is 200 yards away, a long sweep of it with the coast path running along the top, and the village keeps its pubs, a chip shop and an ice cream parlour within an easy stroll. Inland, Bacton Wood is where dogs go when the beach has been done, woodland with trails through it and space for a picnic. The Broads start a short drive to the south.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Stepping Stone Cottage dog friendly?

Yes, Stepping Stone Cottage welcomes up to two dogs. The owners have thought about the practicalities too — there's a dog cage provided, extras put by for the dogs, and an enclosed lawned garden at the back where they can be let out safely while you get settled.

  • Are dogs allowed at Stepping Stone Cottage year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth contacting the owner directly to confirm availability for your dates. With a wood burner, an enclosed garden, and Bacton beach just 200 yards away, it's the kind of place that works well whatever the season.

  • What should I know before visiting Stepping Stone Cottage with my dog?

Up to two dogs are welcome on the booking, and the cottage is set up with them in mind — there's a dog cage, a utility room with a washing machine for muddy kit, and a separate downstairs toilet, so the sandy end of the day stays on the ground floor. The garden is fully fenced, and Bacton beach is a short walk away, with Bacton Wood inland for trail walks when you want a change from the coast.
