Sybils Cottage

Haytons Bent, Shropshire

A two bedroom barn conversion for four at Haytons Bent in south Shropshire, with a garden newly enclosed to be dog proof and two dogs welcome.

The owners have just had the garden properly enclosed to be dog proof, and their own listing says the photographs have not caught up yet. That is a good sign twice over: somebody has spent money on a fence for the benefit of animals, and nobody is pretending the pictures show something they do not. Sybils Cottage takes four at Haytons Bent in south Shropshire, five star and dog friendly, two bedrooms over two bathrooms, with two dogs allowed. A fence put in on purpose is worth more than a wall that happened to be standing there.

It is a traditional barn conversion, done inside to the standard the star rating implies without losing the shape of the building. The new fence is what changes the first ten minutes of a stay: two dogs come out of the car and are loose inside a boundary, rather than walked round on leads while somebody looks for gaps.

It suits four people who wanted the county rather than a town in it. Haytons Bent is a handful of buildings on a lane, and the country round it is the part of Shropshire that people who know it keep quiet about. Two dogs get hedged lanes, hills at the end of most of them, and a garden that holds them without anybody watching.

Titterstone Clee, 7 miles east, is the third highest hill in the county and much the strangest to look at: quarried into steps down one flank, capped with a radar dome, open moor over the rest of it. The old quarry inclines run straight down the side and are walkable the whole way. Two dogs get access land and a summit that looks like nothing else in Shropshire.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Sybils Cottage dog friendly?

Yes, Sybils Cottage is dog friendly and welcomes up to two dogs. The owners have recently had the garden properly enclosed specifically to be dog proof, which means your dogs can be let loose in the garden as soon as you arrive rather than kept on leads while you check for gaps.

  • Are dogs allowed at Sybils Cottage year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, and nothing in the property details suggests otherwise. If you want to confirm availability for a particular time of year, it's worth checking directly with the owners when you book.

  • What should I know before visiting Sybils Cottage with my dog?

The maximum is two dogs, and the newly enclosed garden means they can roam freely from the moment you unload the car. The surrounding area is excellent for walking — Haytons Bent sits in a quiet part of south Shropshire with hedged lanes and hills close by, and Titterstone Clee is around seven miles east, offering open access land and moorland walking to the summit.
