Book now

Martham sits at the top of the Norfolk Broads, where the River Thurne loops towards the coast, and The Barn is on the edge of it in quiet countryside. It is a small dog friendly barn for two, or three with the sofa bed, and two dogs are welcome with a welcome pack and some doggy extras when you arrive.

The ground floor holds the living and dining room, the kitchen with a washing machine, and the shower room, which means muddy dogs never have to be carried past the bedroom. The double bedroom is upstairs, tucked away on its own.

The lawn at the back is private and enclosed, with seating and a barbecue, and it is quiet enough that two dogs settle there quickly. For a couple who want the Broads and the sea within a short drive of each other, it is a neat, uncomplicated base: a morning by the water, an afternoon on the dunes, the dogs asleep on the lawn by early evening. The river banks of the Thurne and the village green with its duck pond are both within an easy walk, so dogs that swim will want watching near them.

Winterton-on-Sea is a short drive, with a long beach backed by dunes, areas set aside for dogs and grey seals on the sands at the right time of year. Hickling Broad and its reserve are nearby for walks through reed beds, and Potter Heigham and Wroxham are the places to hire a boat and see the rivers from the water, dogs aboard where the boatyard allows.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is The Barn dog friendly?

Yes, The Barn is dog friendly and welcomes up to two dogs. A welcome pack and some doggy extras are waiting for you on arrival, and the private enclosed lawn at the back gives dogs a safe space to settle and roam freely.

  • Are dogs allowed at The Barn year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions, so it appears dogs are welcome throughout the year. If you're planning a winter trip, it's worth noting that grey seals can appear on the sands at Winterton-on-Sea nearby, which makes for a memorable off-season visit.

  • What should I know before visiting The Barn with my dog?

The layout is genuinely practical for dog owners — the shower room is on the ground floor, so muddy dogs can be cleaned up before they reach the bedroom upstairs. The River Thurne and the village duck pond are both within easy walking distance, so if your dogs are swimmers you'll want to keep a close eye near the water.
