The Forge is a beautifully converted stable and blacksmith's forge on the Glamorgan Heritage Coast, completed to the highest standard and overlooking the rugged coastline and the bay at Southerndown. It is a Visit Wales four star, dog friendly stay with Welcome Awards for families and pets, with room for four adults, two children and two dogs.

In The Stable, stairs lead up to the first floor lounge, kitchen and diner, placed high to make the most of the spectacular views towards the beach. Warm your toes at the wood burner while the dogs settle beside it, and the contemporary kitchen makes light work of breakfasts and suppers around the dining table. Tucked behind the lounge is a snug with an armchair and local walking guides and maps for planning the next route. The Stable's ground floor bedroom has a double and a single, while The Forge, the second family bedroom, has its own entrance next door, a king, bunks for children up to 14, an en suite and a door straight onto the garden.

The fully enclosed garden has been fantastically thought out. The hot tub sits under a pagoda with sea views, a patio in front of it suits a meal outside, and beyond the gravel there is a raised seating area with a fire pit, while the play area on artificial turf lets little ones captain their own ship.
