Ilkley is a spa town with a moor sitting on top of it, which is an unusual combination and the reason people keep coming back. The Garden Flat takes the lower ground floor of a house a few streets from the middle, with seven steps down from its own enclosed patio garden to the front door. One dog is welcome, and dog friendly addresses this close to the centre here are not thick on the ground.

Through the door is the kitchen, and along the corridor a utility cupboard built for coats and muddy boots, which in a town where every walk starts uphill is where a wet dog stops before the rest of the flat. The lounge beyond holds sofas and a wood burner. A shower room opens off one side of it and into the single bedroom on the other, and the double finishes the plan.

Three adults, or two and a child, and a single dog is the shape this fits. Everything is on one floor with nothing to climb once you are down the steps, and the patio garden is walled, planted and private, with a table set in it. Anybody who would rather have a town base than a cottage at the end of a track has their argument here.

The moor rises behind the town and the Cow and Calf sit on the edge of it, two great blocks of gritstone with Wharfedale laid out underneath. Paths climb from the streets, and a dog is on open heather twenty minutes from the door. Ilkley is also where the Dales Way begins, and it runs north west along the river for as far as anyone follows it.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is The Garden Flat - Ilkley dog friendly?

Yes, one dog is welcome at The Garden Flat. The listing notes that dog-friendly addresses this close to Ilkley town centre are not easy to come by, so it's a genuinely useful find for anyone wanting a town base rather than a remote cottage.

  • Are dogs allowed at The Garden Flat - Ilkley year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so there's nothing to suggest your dog wouldn't be welcome throughout the year. If you want to confirm the exact policy for your dates, it's always worth checking directly with the host when you book.

  • What should I know before visiting The Garden Flat - Ilkley with my dog?

The flat has a utility cupboard designed for coats and muddy boots, which is where a wet dog can be sorted before heading into the rest of the space — handy given that every walk in Ilkley starts uphill. The enclosed patio garden is walled and private, giving your dog somewhere secure to settle outside. Bear in mind there are seven steps down from the patio to the front door, so it's worth considering if that suits your dog.
