The Glass House is the priciest thing on our Cornwall list and it is built around a single idea, which is doors. Rooms open onto patio terraces on several sides, so the inside and the enclosed garden run into one another. Five bedrooms, five bathrooms, a hot tub, spa facilities, three dogs welcome, and a short walk down to the quay at Polruan.
For three dogs that layout is worth more than any individual feature. The garden is enclosed as a whole rather than fenced off in one corner, and it opens from several rooms, which means a door standing open stops being something anyone has to manage. Whilst you move between the terraces, so does your dog. The Fowey to Polkerris coast walk starts half a mile off and takes an eight from us, Lantic Bay is a mile and a half, and the Par Sands circular round Gribbin Head is under two.
Ten people, five bathrooms, three dogs. The quay, the beach and the pubs are close enough to leave the car alone all week, and the passenger ferry puts you in Fowey in ten minutes. At this price it is a gathering rather than a holiday, and the layout is what makes a gathering with three dogs in it workable: enough doors that nobody ends up being the person watching the gate.
