The Glass House is a spectacular, luxuriously furnished retreat in Polruan, overlooking the Fowey River with harbour views from every level. Ten guests share it with three dogs, and the dog friendly house has a hot tub, a sauna and a cinema room for the end of a busy day.
Inside the front door is a wide hallway with a cupboard for coats and shoes, full height glass flooding it with light. Three bedrooms lead off it, each with an en suite. Stairs go down to the impressive open plan living space, designed around the river view to Fowey, with large sofas and full height windows and doors looking over the garden and coastal scenery, and the dogs soon claim a spot to take it all in.
Further down are the cinema room, with a 65 inch Smart TV, surround sound and bean bags, a spacious double with great views, and the superb master king, whose dressing room leads to a bathroom with freestanding bath and walk in shower, plus a sauna up a step. Doors from several rooms open onto patio terraces and the whole enclosed garden, with outdoor seating for dining alfresco, and the bubbling hot tub looks out over the river and Polruan while three dogs explore the terraces.
The quay and the beach are close by, and the passenger ferry is the way across to Fowey's independent shops and restaurants. A circular walk to Bodinnick, home of Daphne du Maurier, is a fine half day for the dogs, and further along this south Cornish coast are Kingsand and Cawsand on the Rame peninsula and Charlestown's Georgian harbour. The Eden Project, Lanhydrock, Antony House and Mount Edgcumbe are all within reach.
