The Highlander's Rest - Strathglass Lodg

Cannich, Highlands

One of three single level lodges at Cannich with enclosed gardens and three dogs welcome apiece, sleeping four with a king room and bunks, Strathglass on the doorstep.

Book now

Three detached lodges stand together at Cannich, each single level, each in its own enclosed garden, each welcoming three dogs, and Strathglass Lodge is the one named for the valley it looks along. It sleeps four with a king room and a bunk room, a dog friendly base built for packs rather than singletons.

The open plan lounge, kitchen and dining space does the living in one warm room with country views, the shower room and two bedrooms complete it, and the garden outside holds the furniture and the evening. Groups travelling as a convoy can take the neighbouring lodges too and turn the row into a compound, nine dogs strong if it comes to it.

The name is the itinerary. Strathglass runs green and quiet below Cannich, its river walks flat enough for old dogs and long enough for young ones, with trout and salmon fishing and pony trekking arranged locally for the days the leads stay on the hook.

Glen Affric opens above the village for the big days, Plodda Falls and Guisachan's retriever history sit at Tomich, and Loch Ness is over the hill when the tourist itch needs scratching. Inverness is under an hour away, and three dogs will not ask to go.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is The Highlander's Rest - Strathglass Lodg dog friendly?

Yes, Strathglass Lodge is genuinely built with dogs in mind. Each of the three lodges at Cannich welcomes up to three dogs, and every lodge comes with its own enclosed garden — so your dogs have a secure outdoor space to roam from the moment you arrive. Groups travelling together can even book the neighbouring lodges and accommodate up to nine dogs across the row.

  • Are dogs allowed at The Highlander's Rest - Strathglass Lodg year round?

The listing doesn't specify seasonal restrictions, so it's worth contacting the property directly to confirm availability and any conditions around timing. What we can say is that the surrounding area — Strathglass, Glen Affric, and the local river walks — offers something worthwhile in every season, making it a strong base for a dog-friendly trip at almost any time of year.

  • What should I know before visiting The Highlander's Rest - Strathglass Lodg with my dog?

The lodge is single level throughout, which makes it easy going for dogs of all ages and sizes. The enclosed private garden means you don't need to worry about leads every time you step outside, and the flat river walks along Strathglass are well suited to older or less energetic dogs. For bigger adventures, Glen Affric is on the doorstep and Plodda Falls is a short drive away at Tomich.
