The livestock changes how the week works. Everything on the far side is grazed, so leads are on from the gate outwards and off again at home, and two dogs learn the difference inside a day. Indoors is a house of rooms rather than one space. A mile off, Denbigh keeps its walls, and inside them stands the roofless shell of Leicester's Church, begun as a cathedral and abandoned when its patron died. The lanes out of Lawnt drop to the river and follow it, flat and quiet and shaded, and the estate paths add miles more that never touch tarmac. Two dogs can be walked all week without repeating a route.
