Rare breed sheep and pigs graze the far bank, and a bridge from the bottom of the garden crosses to them. The Lodge Dolhyfryd is dog friendly and sleeps eight above Denbigh, five star, four bedrooms, a bathroom and two shower rooms, in its own enclosed garden. Two dogs are welcome. You can be over that bridge and into a wildflower meadow before the kettle has boiled.

The livestock changes how the week works. Everything on the far side is grazed, so leads are on from the gate outwards and off again at home, and two dogs learn the difference inside a day. On this side the lawn is enclosed and the borders are long established, with a stream along the bottom and a table set where you can hear the water.

Indoors is a house of rooms rather than one space. The library hall has an open fire and the drawing room a second, the conservatory holds the dining table, and a playroom exists for whoever is still small enough to use it. A boot room off the kitchen takes everything that came back wet, so both dogs are dried where the mud is allowed to stay. Upstairs are four bedrooms, among them a super king with a private balcony and a bunk room.

A mile off, Denbigh keeps its walls, and inside them stands the roofless shell of Leicester's Church, begun as a cathedral and abandoned when its patron died. The lanes out of Lawnt drop to the river and follow it, flat and quiet and shaded, and the estate paths add miles more that never touch tarmac. Two dogs can be walked all week without repeating a route.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is The Lodge Dolhyfryd dog friendly?

Yes, The Lodge Dolhyfryd welcomes up to two dogs. The property has its own enclosed garden, a boot room off the kitchen for drying muddy dogs, and direct access to wildflower meadows, quiet river lanes and estate paths that can keep two dogs walked all week without repeating a route.

  • Are dogs allowed at The Lodge Dolhyfryd year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth contacting the property directly to confirm availability for your dates. What is clear is that the setup — enclosed garden, boot room, and miles of walking from the door — is designed with dogs very much in mind.

  • What should I know before visiting The Lodge Dolhyfryd with my dog?

The most important thing to be aware of is the livestock. Rare breed sheep and pigs graze the land across the bridge at the bottom of the garden, so dogs need to be on leads from the gate outwards whenever you head that side. The description notes that most dogs pick up the distinction between on-lead and off-lead territory within a day, and on the home side of the bridge the garden is enclosed and the lawn is freely available to them.
