The Stable At Coppy House Farm

Clapham, North Yorkshire

Both dogs are asleep on a window seat cut into a wall standing since the sixteenth century, which is not what it was put there for. The Stable is a dog friendly barn conversion on a working farm between Clapham and Settle, two king bedrooms, four people, two dogs, and a large enclosed garden of lawn and patio. Seats like it are set through the whole building, and the fells fill every one.

The lounge has the wood burner in the middle, and past it the kitchen and dining space keep their beams, stone walls and an old range. Floors down here are original and hard, the right surface for two dogs in off a fell. Upstairs the two kings share a family bathroom, one of them with an en suite shower.

The futons decide who this suits. Two kings for two couples, or one couple with children on the extra beds, and two dogs whichever way it falls. The farm is a working one, so there is constant interest beyond the garden fence that the dogs will want to be told about. The broadband runs past 200Mbps, strange in a barn this old and the reason somebody can work a Friday morning while the rest walk.

Clapham is 3 miles off, a village of stone bridges over a beck with a wooded gorge behind it. That gorge is the old way up Ingleborough: through grounds the Farrer family planted with seed brought back from Asia, past the cave mouth, up Trow Gill and out onto moor where Gaping Gill swallows a stream into the hill. Dogs manage all of it on a lead, the ground being farmed. Ingleton and its waterfalls lie the other way.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is The Stable At Coppy House Farm dog friendly?

Yes, The Stable at Coppy House Farm welcomes up to two dogs. It's a barn conversion with original stone floors downstairs — exactly the kind of surface you want after a muddy fell walk — and a large enclosed garden of lawn and patio where dogs can roam freely.

  • Are dogs allowed at The Stable At Coppy House Farm year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, and as a self-catering barn conversion on a working farm it's available for stays throughout the year. If you need to confirm availability for a specific time, it's worth checking directly with the property.

  • What should I know before visiting The Stable At Coppy House Farm with my dog?

The farm is a working one, so there will be livestock beyond the garden fence that your dogs will need to be managed around. The surrounding countryside is farmed too, so dogs should be kept on leads when walking nearby — including on the route up Ingleborough through Clapham Gorge and past Gaping Gill, which is otherwise a brilliant day out. The enclosed garden gives them a safe space to let off steam without the lead.
