Caerfachell, Pembrokeshire

A former coachman's cottage for six in a hamlet near Solva, with a level, fully enclosed south facing garden, an outside tap, a wood burner and two dogs welcome.

Book now

The coachman from the nearby manor house used to live here. Trewellwell Cottage stands in Caerfachell, a hamlet of old cottages round a small green between Solva and St Davids, and today it is a dog friendly place to stay for six people and two dogs, with three bedrooms and a wood burner.

The garden is the thing a dog owner wants to hear about, and it is good news. It is lawned, south facing, level and fully enclosed, with flowerbeds and a table outside. There is an outside tap, which the owners mention for wetsuits and which works just as well on a sandy dog, and a dog bed and bowls can be put out if you ask ahead. Maps are left in the cottage marking local dog walks and the beaches where dogs are welcome.

Inside there are beams and wooden floors, all recently refurbished. The living and dining room faces south with windows on two sides, and the wood burner has a starter basket of kindling and logs to get it going. Upstairs are two doubles, one with its own bathroom, and a twin, plus a shower room, and a stair gate is provided for a dog who should stay below. Behind the cottage is an old Calvinist chapel, and the loudest thing in the hamlet at night is usually the dog turning round in its bed.

A dog can walk from the door across the heath, and the coast path is within 2 miles. Solva's harbour is a short drive, all small boats and crabbing off the quay, and St Davids, with its cathedral, sits above the sands of Whitesands and Caerfai.
