From its elevated spot in the rolling Welsh countryside, Ty Penybryn looks across to Pen-y-Fan. This stylish, stone-built farmhouse sits within its own grounds on a working farm, sleeps six, and is a dog friendly stay for one small dog no bigger than a spaniel, with an enclosed garden all around the house.

You come in at the side, straight into the hub of the home: a spacious, farmhouse-style kitchen and diner, open plan under exposed wooden beams, with a gas range, a coffee machine and a generous table that seats six with mountain views. The utility room takes muddy boots and coats when you and the dog come in from a walk, and from the spacious lounge, with its Smart TV, a door leads out to the grounds.

Upstairs, three generously sized bedrooms all look out over the surrounding hillsides: the king-size comes with his and hers sinks in its en-suite shower room, next comes a double, and the twin, on zip-and-link beds, can be turned into a super-king on request. A beautiful bathroom completes the floor. The patio outside offers seating and a fire pit, with views over the Black Mountains as well as Pen-y-Fan, the children have a slide, swings and a climbing frame on the grass, and the dog has the enclosed garden to explore.

Llangorse Lake is 4.5 miles away, with rowing boats, kayaks and Canadian canoes to hire. The surrounding hillsides await keen walkers and their dog, with Pen-y-Fan the highest point in the park, while Talybont Reservoir, the River Usk and the Brecon Canal offer gentler strolls. Hay-on-Wye, Crickhowell and Brecon are all within 14 miles.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Ty Penybryn dog friendly?

Yes, Ty Penybryn welcomes one dog. The farmhouse has been set up thoughtfully for arriving with a dog — there's a utility room for boots and coats, a cloakroom beside it, and the lounge opens directly onto an enclosed garden that runs right round the building.

  • Are dogs allowed at Ty Penybryn year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, but we'd recommend checking directly with the owner to confirm availability and any conditions before you book.

  • What should I know before visiting Ty Penybryn with my dog?

The property allows one dog, so it's not suited to multi-dog households. The enclosed garden means your dog can roam outside without you worrying, and the utility room at the entrance is designed exactly for the wet-dog moment — boots off, dog sorted, then through to the house. Nearby, Pwll y Wrach is a shaded, level walk through a wooded gorge to a waterfall, and Bronllys Castle is a free-to-visit round keep just two miles away, so there's a good morning's outing close at hand.
