Book now

Ty'r Afon is a quirky waterside retreat in the coastal village of Llwyngwril, in Snowdonia National Park, and the sound of the neighbouring river carries across its wonderful garden. Romantic and dog friendly, it suits a couple bringing up to two medium sized dogs, or a single large one.

This is a gated property, and you come in through a lobby with storage for boots and coats, with the shower room just off it. Beyond lies the open plan living space, where the kitchen has been creatively designed, with a gas oven and hob, an air fryer and a dishwasher, while the dining table is well placed for planning the day ahead. Once the exploring is done, the Smart TV and the wood burner make for cosy nights in, with the dogs curled up by the hearth. The king-size bedroom has plenty of storage too.

French doors open onto the enclosed lawn, with seating, a picnic table, a BBQ area, a gazebo and sun loungers for reading away an afternoon. Boules and croquet sets are provided for a game on the grass, dog anchors with a long lead are available while the dogs are out with you, and there is a lockable bike rack.

The River Gwril is the place for a picnic to the sound of flowing water and birdsong, and the local coastline has a pebble beach that makes a fine backdrop for the sunset. Fairbourne Beach, 3 miles away, has a wide expanse of sand, the level Mawddach Trail is easily reached by car or train for an easy walk with the dogs, and Coed y Brenin, 14 miles off, has an array of cycle tracks.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Ty'r Afon - House Of The River dog friendly?

Yes, Ty'r Afon welcomes up to two dogs. The cottage sits within the owner's own grounds behind a gate, so the lawn outside the French doors is properly enclosed — you can let your dogs out straight from the sofa without any worry about them wandering.

  • Are dogs allowed at Ty'r Afon - House Of The River year round?

The listing doesn't specify seasonal restrictions, so it's worth contacting the owner directly to confirm availability for your dates. What we can say is that the setup — a wood burner, an enclosed lawn, and a lobby built for boots and wet gear — makes it a practical choice in any season.

  • What should I know before visiting Ty'r Afon - House Of The River with my dog?

The cottage takes a maximum of two dogs, so it's worth bearing that in mind when booking. The enclosed lawn gives dogs free run outside, and the pebble beach below the village is a short walk away — good territory for a dog that likes to sniff and explore rather than sprint across open sand. Footpaths also climb off the road at either end of the village if you're after something more energetic.
