In the heart of Kettlewell, Wayside Cottage is a dog friendly cottage for three people and one dog. The enclosed lawned garden comes with a table, chairs and fantastic views across the countryside, and a second patio at the front catches the last of the evening sun. The village sits at the foot of Great Whernside, with charming pubs and some of the best walks and cycle routes in the country.
The welcoming lounge has an open fire, comfortable seating, a reclining armchair and a Smart TV, and once the walking is done the dog finds the warmth of the fire long before anyone else does. The kitchen and diner has a dining table for sociable meals, and from the rear of the cottage there are splendid views of the wooded dale. Upstairs there are two well presented bedrooms, a king size at the front and a double at the rear, along with a shower room.
The fire has been going since six, which is a good deal longer than anybody intended. The dog is stretched out in the lounge, dead to the world after the riverside walk. Somebody has the map out for tomorrow and is not looking at it. Both beds are made upstairs and neither will be used for another hour.
The River Wharfe runs across from the cottage, and a stroll along it leads the dog to the quintessential Dales villages that lie along its banks. For avid walkers the Yorkshire Three Peaks are within easy reach, and the market town of Skipton with its historic castle and the spectacular Malham Cove are both 14 miles away.
