A two bedroom cottage for three in the middle of Kettlewell with an open fire, an enclosed lawned garden behind and a small front patio, one dog welcome.

Book now

Wayside Cottage is a two bedroom dog friendly cottage standing in the middle of Kettlewell, one dog, three people at most. A lawned enclosed garden lies out the back with a table on the patio, and a second small patio at the front takes the last of the evening. Kettlewell itself is three hundred people, a bridge over the Wharfe, and lanes so narrow that traffic counts as an event.

An open fire in the lounge, not a wood burner, and that is the reason the room works. A sofa, a reclining armchair, and a hearth a dog will get as close to as allowed. The kitchen and its table sit behind, looking up the wooded dale. Two bedrooms upstairs, a king above the street and a double above the garden, with the shower room between them.

The fire has been going since six, which is a good deal longer than anybody intended. The dog has worked its way forward across the rug in increments nobody noticed and is now close enough to the grate to be a worry. Somebody has the map out for tomorrow and is not looking at it. Both beds are made upstairs and neither will be used for another hour.

The Wharfe runs past the end of the village and the Dales Way follows it, a level riverside path north and south with nothing on it to hurry a dog along. Great Whernside stands behind the houses at 2,310 feet, and the track up leaves from the village itself. Grassington and its cobbled square lie downstream. Almost all of the walking here begins before the car has been touched.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Wayside Cottage - Kettlewell dog friendly?

Yes, Wayside Cottage welcomes one dog alongside up to three guests. It's well set up for a dog stay — there's an enclosed lawned garden at the back for safe outdoor time, and an open fire in the lounge that any dog will make a beeline for.

  • Are dogs allowed at Wayside Cottage - Kettlewell year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions, so it's worth checking directly with the owner to confirm availability for your dates. What we can say is that the cottage — with its open fire and sheltered garden — sounds particularly well suited to an off-season visit.

  • What should I know before visiting Wayside Cottage - Kettlewell with my dog?

The cottage takes one dog only, so it's best suited to single-dog households. The enclosed garden gives your dog somewhere secure to stretch out, and Kettlewell itself is a brilliant base for walking — the Dales Way runs along the river from the village, and the track up Great Whernside starts from the village too, so you'll be straight into proper walking without needing the car.
