The lawn is enclosed, the veranda is decked, and the paddock behind the lodge is home to Shetland ponies.
Kitchen, lounge and dining are all one open plan room, with spectacular views from every window. A flame effect bioethanol fire flickers away after dinner. The super king comes with its own Smart TV, and the second bedroom is a single with a full size trundle, so it sleeps three and a spare. Everything is on one level, which three dogs appreciate as much as anyone.
The hot tub goes on at six. Below the lodge a Wensleydale Railway steam train puffs along, and everybody stops to watch it go by. Two of the dogs are out on the decking behind the glass balustrades. The third is on the enclosed lawn, watching the Shetland ponies in the paddock beyond with great seriousness.
Just down the hill from Finghall a little rural station puts the Wensleydale steam trains within reach, for a run up to Leyburn for lunch and back again. The market towns of Bedale, Richmond and Northallerton are all within a short drive, and the Dales countryside the lodge looks out on is there for the dogs to explore.
