Black Mountain and Divis Summit Loop
County Antrim
Divis and Black Mountain together form the dramatic western skyline of Belfast and the National Trust Summit Loop stitches both tops into one 5 kilometre moorland circuit. It is dog friendly with caveats, but the top of the hill is truly memorable, with views sweeping from the Isle of Man to the Mournes on a clear day.
Dogs need to stay on a lead throughout because the summits sit on active sheep pasture and ground nesting birds use the heather through spring and early summer. A mix of boardwalk, stone slabs and rougher moorland tracks makes for generally easy going on pads, though the weather exposed plateau can turn quickly. The lower car park is open dawn to dusk and free; the upper car park, toilets and cafe are closed until May 2027, so arrive prepared.
