Camlough Mountain Circular Walk
County Armagh
Camlough Mountain sits on the border of Armagh and Down with Camlough Lake spread out below it, and the circular route from Tamnaghbane Road is a firm favourite for owners who want open fell terrain close to Newry. It is dog friendly from first to last, with most handlers walking off lead on the upper ridge.
Sheep graze the lower pastures so start on a lead and release only once you are clear of the walls, keeping an eye out for ground nesting birds in spring. The path is rough underfoot, peaty, and often muddy, so waterproof paws are an asset. Roadside parking is tight with only a handful of spaces, and there are no facilities at the trailhead, though Camlough village has a shop and petrol station.
