Mourne Mountains: Slieve Binnian from Carrick Little

County Down

Dog Friendly Rating: 8/10 A dog friendly Mourne Mountain circuit over the granite tors of Slieve Binnian with Silent Valley views.

Slieve Binnian is the third highest of the Mournes at 747 metres, a granite ridge crowned with a line of bouldery tors that locals call the North and South Tors. This dog friendly circular from Carrick Little follows the Mourne Wall to the summit and returns past the Blue Lough and Annalong Forest.

Dogs are welcome off lead on the open hill but must be clipped on at the start where sheep graze, and again at the forest exit to cross the road back to the car park. Terrain is a proper mountain day: stone pitched path, rough grass, granite scramble around the tors, and a long forest track home. There is a small honesty box car park at Carrick Little that fills quickly at weekends and no facilities on route, so pack water and food for both of you.
