Kilbroney Forest Park Circular, Rostrevor
County Down
Kilbroney Forest Park blankets the eastern flank of Slieve Martin above the village of Rostrevor and gives dog friendly handlers a big choice from short tree trails to a full summit circuit. The circular from Kilbroney Park climbs through ancient oak before breaking onto heather and granite above Carlingford Lough.
Dogs are welcome on a lead for the whole route, which is essential on the upper mountain because sheep graze the open hillside and the Mourne Way passes through active pasture. Tracks are forest road, narrow wooded path and stone pitched mountain path, sturdy footwear required above the tree line. Parking is pay and display at Kilbroney Park with toilets, a cafe and play park, and the wooded lower loops work well on wet days.
