Coverack to Lowland Point Circular

Cornwall

Dog Friendly Rating:7/10A dog gets a rare stretch of open, off-lead shoreline near Coverack, a Cornish fishing village with a pub and a beach open all year.

Coverack is a fishing village on the east side of the Lizard with a long history of smuggling, and the coast north of it looks out over the Manacles, the reef that has wrecked many ships off this shore. A dog with good recall can enjoy real freedom on the low shoreline path back from Lowland Point, and this 6.8km circular walk heads north out of the village through woodland and past rocky outcrops to the lanes at Boscarnon and Trevalsoe farms, then follows quiet lanes towards St Keverne before dropping down a rough track past old quarry buildings to Lowland Point. The point is a low, flat National Trust headland, and the return follows the South West Coast Path back along the shore to Coverack. There is about 152 metres of climbing, with one steep ascent, a few stiles, lanes, and coastal path that can be muddy after rain.

This is a dog friendly walk with more off-lead potential than many Cornish coast walks, because the coast path back from Lowland Point runs low along the shore rather than beside sheer drops. The inland section crosses farmland and lanes, where your dog should be on a lead and where livestock may be grazing. Take water, as there is little shade after the first woodland. Coverack beach is one of the Lizard beaches where dogs are allowed all year, which makes it a good place to finish. The village has a pub and cafes, and parking is at the car park above the harbour.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Coverack to Lowland Point Circular dog friendly?

This 6.8km circular walk earns a 7/10 dog friendly rating, which is solid for a Cornish coastal route. The coast path back from Lowland Point runs low along the shore rather than beside clifftop drops, giving dogs more freedom than many walks in the area, and Coverack beach itself allows dogs all year round. The village has a pub, cafes, and toilets, making it a comfortable place to finish the walk.

  • Can dogs be off lead at Coverack to Lowland Point Circular?

Dogs with good recall can enjoy real off-lead freedom on the low shoreline path returning from Lowland Point — this is genuinely one of the highlights of the route. The inland section through farmland and quiet lanes is a different story, and dogs should be kept on a lead there, as livestock may be grazing. Coverack beach is also open to dogs all year, so there's an extra off-lead opportunity at the end of the walk.

  • What should I know before visiting Coverack to Lowland Point Circular with my dog?

The route includes a few stiles, one steep ascent, and coastal path that can get muddy after rain, so it's worth checking conditions before you go. There's little shade once you leave the initial woodland section, so bring enough water for your dog. The inland lanes and farmland sections pass working farms where livestock may be present, so leads are essential there.
