Gortin Glen Forest Park Circular

County Tyrone

Dog Friendly Rating:8/10A dog friendly Sperrin forest park with layered waymarked trails, red squirrels and viewpoints over the Owenkillew valley.

Gortin Glen Forest Park sits on the southern fringes of the Sperrins above the Owenkillew valley and offers a graded set of waymarked loops through Sitka spruce, native broadleaf and open heather clearings. The Ladies View Loop and the Pollan Burn Trail combine into a fine dog friendly circular, with multiple viewpoints and a good chance of seeing red squirrel on the quieter woodland sections.

Dogs are welcome on a lead throughout with shared mountain bike trails the main reason to keep leads on. Surfaces are compacted forest road and rolling gravel track with a few short wooded descents, sturdy trainers or light boots are plenty. Parking is pay and display at the visitor hub with toilets, a cafe with outdoor seating and picnic tables, and the children's forest play area is right beside the car park for dogs still tolerant of small humans.
