Rhossili Down and Worms Head, Gower
Swansea
Rhossili Down (193m) is the highest point on Gower, a long bracken ridge above one of Britain's most photogenic beaches with views across to the tidal island of Worms Head. This dog friendly circular walk climbs the Down from Rhossili village, returns along the National Trust clifftop towards the Worms Head causeway and finishes through the village, with the option to descend onto the beach when the dogs need a swim.
The paths are mostly grassy with a steep stepped pull up the Down and some loose ground on the descent. The summit and clifftop are open access common where dogs can be off lead, but sheep and grazing ponies are present year round so a solid recall is essential. Rhossili Beach allows dogs all year round and is one of the great dog beaches in Britain. The village has the dog friendly Worms Head Hotel and a National Trust visitor centre with water bowls. Parking is at the National Trust car park, free for members.
