Wyre Estuary Country Park

Lancashire

Dog Friendly Rating:8/10No livestock at Wyre Estuary Country Park means a dog can run off lead on this flat riverside circuit, with views to Fleetwood and the Fylde coast.

Wyre Estuary Country Park occupies the riverside at Stanah, on the west bank of the River Wyre between Thornton-Cleveleys and Skippool, with wide views across the water to Fleetwood and the Fylde coast beyond. With no livestock on site, a dog can run off lead across much of the park. This 4.8km circular walk follows the estuary path south towards Little Thornton before returning on a quieter lane, taking in woodland, a geology explorers trail and a network of paths that connect to the long distance Wyre Way. The going is flat and easy throughout, on surfaced paths suitable for buggies and wheelchairs as well as walking boots, with the tide governing how much sand and mud is exposed along the shore.

This is a dog friendly park that locals use every day, and there is space to let dogs off the lead away from the busiest paths, provided they are kept under close control and called back when other dogs or wildlife are near. A separate dog free family area is set aside near the play equipment, so keep dogs out of that section. Birdwatchers use the estuary paths too, so a dog with a strong prey drive should stay closer on a lead near the water's edge. Wyreside Cafe by the car park serves food and drink and welcomes well behaved dogs, and parking at the park is free.
