Tattershall College
Tattershall, Lincolnshire
The remains of a 15th century choristers' grammar school, tucked between houses off the market place. A two minute stop with your dog rather than a walk.
Small, easily missed, and worth knowing about if you are already in Tattershall. These are the remains of a grammar school founded in the mid 15th century by Ralph, Lord Cromwell, Treasurer of England, who also built the great brick tower of Tattershall Castle next door. The school was for the choristers of the collegiate church he founded, which tells you something about the scale of his ambitions for the village: castle, church and school, all endowed by one man.
Whilst you find it, access is off the Market Place between houses numbered 2 and 3, which is exactly as tucked away as it sounds. This is a stop rather than a walk for your dog, but Tattershall makes a decent half day: the National Trust's great brick tower is a few minutes away, the collegiate church is worth seeing, and the Witham and the Lincolnshire fen paths are close by.
There is no official guidance on dogs for this site, so keep your dog on a lead in what is effectively a residential lane. There are no facilities on site.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Tattershall College dog friendly?
There's no official dog policy for this site, so it's not formally designated as dog friendly — but equally, nothing prevents you visiting with your dog. As access runs through what is effectively a residential lane between houses, it's sensible to keep your dog on a lead throughout.
Are dogs allowed at Tattershall College year round?
There's no guidance suggesting any seasonal restrictions, so there's no reason you couldn't visit at any time of year. Bear in mind this is a brief stop rather than a destination in itself — you're looking at a couple of minutes to take in the remains rather than an extended visit.
What should I know before visiting Tattershall College with my dog?
Access is tucked away off the Market Place, between houses numbered 2 and 3, so keep your dog on a lead given the residential setting. There are no facilities on site, so come prepared. The good news is that Tattershall itself makes for a decent half day out — Tattershall Castle's great brick tower, the collegiate church, and nearby fen paths along the Witham are all worth combining with a visit.
