Tregiffian Burial Chamber

A Neolithic chambered tomb cut through by the road so you see it in section, in the densest prehistoric landscape in England for you and your dog.
The road cut straight through it, which is unfortunate for the monument and useful for the visitor. Tregiffian is a Neolithic or early Bronze Age chambered tomb with a walled and roofed entrance passage leading into a central chamber, and because the B3315 was driven through one side you see the structure in section rather than having to imagine it. One kerb stone is decorated with cup marks, with the original in the Royal Cornwall Museum and a replica in place here.
Whilst you take in the section, your dog gets the real value, which is where it sits. This corner of west Cornwall is the densest prehistoric landscape in England, and the Merry Maidens stone circle is a few hundred metres away, with the Pipers standing stones, Boscawen-Un and Lanyon Quoit all close by, so you can build a proper day of it.
Free and permanently open, two miles southeast of St Buryan on the B3315. Nothing official is published about dogs at this site. The tomb sits directly beside a road with almost no verge and the surrounding fields are grazed, so keep your dog on a lead from the car. No facilities.
