Porthcurno Beach

Cornwall

Dog Friendly Rating:6/10Visually one of Cornwall's most striking beaches, but summer restrictions mean it is best saved for an off-season visit.

Porthcurno Beach sits at the foot of steep granite cliffs near Land's End, famous for turquoise water of extraordinary clarity and the Minack Theatre carved into the headland above. The sand is pale, almost white, and the small sheltered bay creates colours more reminiscent of the Caribbean than Cornwall on calm days. The surrounding coastal path connects to Porthgwarra and beyond, adding walking options to what is otherwise a compact beach. Rock pools emerge at low tide along the base of the cliffs.\n\nThis dog friendly beach has Cornwall Council PSPO restrictions from July to August between 10am and 6pm, making it firmly an autumn, winter, and spring destination for dog owners. Outside those months it is genuinely exceptional — quiet, spectacularly beautiful, and full of interest for dogs who enjoy investigating rock pools and tidelines. The fine sand with shell grit near the water provides comfortable walking, and the clean Atlantic water filtered over granite gives the air a distinctly mineral quality. Limited facilities on the beach itself, but the setting more than compensates.
