Wroxeter, or Viriconium, was once the fourth largest city in Roman Britain, and what survives gives you the civic heart of it. You can walk the excavated remains of the city centre, dominated by the gigantic public bath house complex, and the Old Work, a towering fragment of the basilica wall, is the largest free standing piece of Roman masonry in the country.
As you take in the full size Roman town house beside the site, reconstructed using only Roman tools and techniques, which is genuinely useful for understanding what the foundations around you originally looked like, your dog gets a level, open, grassy site in quiet Shropshire farmland with the Wrekin on the skyline.
The policy is clear: dogs must be on leads at all times, and are not permitted in the museum unless they are a service animal. There is free parking for 25 to 30 vehicles right by the entrance.
