Free, quiet and architecturally better than its low profile suggests. Buildwas is a Cistercian abbey whose 12th century church survives unusually unaltered, so you get the plain, austere Cistercian design almost as it was built. The vaulted chapter house is the highlight, with its original tiled floor still in place.
Whilst you take in the chapter house and the unaltered church, your dog gets grounds that are flat, green and well shaded, which makes for an easy, unhurried visit rather than a route march. It sits in a wooded setting beside the River Severn, a short distance from the Iron Bridge and Wenlock Priory, so it fits neatly into a wider day in the Ironbridge Gorge.
