Polurrian Cove

Cornwall

Dog Friendly Rating: 8/10 A wide, open sandy bay on the western Lizard with year-round dog access and an adjacent boutique hotel that genuinely welcomes dogs.

Polurrian Cove is a beautiful, wide sandy bay on the western Lizard Peninsula, south of Mullion and adjacent to the Polurrian on the Lizard boutique hotel. The beach is broader and more open than Mullion Cove, facing south-west into the Atlantic and catching both sun and swell. The sand is pale and fine, and the beach is framed by low cliffs with the hotel grounds above to one side. It has a spacious, unhurried quality and, given its relative inaccessibility compared to beaches further up the Lizard coast, rarely becomes overcrowded.

Dogs are welcome at Polurrian Cove year-round with no PSPO restrictions, and the beach is an excellent dog friendly beach with space to run and good swimming conditions when swell is moderate. The Polurrian on the Lizard hotel is notably dog-welcoming throughout its facilities, including its spa and restaurant, making this a rare combination of a quality beach and a hotel where dogs are genuinely integrated rather than merely tolerated. The South West Coast Path passes above the beach on both sides, and the wider Lizard coastline in this stretch is exceptional walking country.
