A Palladian mansion in 500 acres of Wiltshire parkland, where dogs are given bowls, bedding, fleeces and towels and are welcome in the bar and on the terrace.
Lucknam Park is a Palladian mansion set in 500 acres of parkland at the southern edge of the Cotswolds, near Bath, a five star hotel whose 42 rooms and suites are full of antiques and collectables. As a dog friendly hotel it has the estate to explore, with one thing to keep in mind: horses graze in the paddocks and are ridden across the estate, so dogs stay on a lead.
There is a limited number of dog friendly bedrooms, so your dog needs to be pre-booked by telephone or email, and one or two dogs are allowed per room depending on the room you reserve. Each dog is given water and food bowls, bedding, fleeces and towels. Dogs under a year old aren't permitted and all pets need to be fully up to date with vaccinations. In the grounds and woodlands, you clean up after your dog.
Inside the main hotel, dogs are allowed only in the reception area, and they are welcome in the bar and on the terrace. Restaurant Hywel Jones holds a Michelin star, the Walled Garden Restaurant beside the spa serves relaxed meals, and the menus celebrate hyper-local ingredients. Dogs are not permitted in either restaurant. The hotel doesn't say whether food is served in the bar or on the terrace, so ask before you plan a meal together.
The spa has eight therapy rooms, a 20 metre indoor pool, an indoor and outdoor hydrotherapy pool with views of the arboretum, and five thermal cabins, and there is a riding programme just for hotel residents. Beyond the parkland, Castle Combe and By Brook Circular, a Wildpack walk 3.3 miles from the hotel, makes a longer day out for you and your dog.
