Ruthin Castle Hotel & Spa

Ruthin, Denbighshire

Yes. Dogs can stay in selected rooms, up to 2 dogs per room.

A four star castle hotel in the heart of Ruthin, where dog rooms give easy access to the grounds and well behaved dogs share the bar with you.

Peacocks may be out on the driveway to greet you as you pass under the stone entrance archway of Ruthin Castle. The four star castle hotel sits in acres of gardens and sprawling woodland in the heart of the medieval town of Ruthin, and it has been welcoming guests, Kings and Queens among them, for several hundred years. Outstanding grounds and gardens to explore make this a dog friendly hotel for days spent outside.

A number of the 60 bedrooms are set aside for dogs, each with an en suite and easy access outside, so a walk in the grounds is a moment's notice away. Two dogs at most can stay per room, and the hotel must be contacted before you book, to check one is available. The house rules are clear: a lead at all times on the estate, no longer than 2 metres, no dogs on beds or furniture, and no leaving them in the bedroom unsupervised. Staff can't feed or walk your dog and there is no pet food on sale, so pack what you need. Bins are dotted around the grounds for clearing up after your dog.

Well behaved dogs are welcome while you eat and drink in the bar. Ruthin Castle doesn't say if dogs may sit with you in Tafarn Y Ddraig, the Dragon Tavern, which fills the castle's historic banqueting hall with local dishes and drinks, from coffee and cake and light lunches to afternoon tea.

BAZAAR Spa sits in the castle's former moat, with woodland hot tubs, sauna, steam and a mud room, though dogs can't go in, and the gym is complimentary for residents. Out with the dog, walks and hiking start on the doorstep, and Foel Fenlli from Bwlch Pen Barras, a Wildpack walk, is 3 miles away.

Facts checked October 2026 from the hotel's own website. Details can change, so please confirm anything important, especially the dog rules, with the hotel before you book.
