Five minutes on foot from the Royal Shakespeare Company, Swan's Nest Hotel sits along the banks of the River Avon in the heart of Shakespeare's hometown. The building is a 17th century townhouse full of historical character, with luxurious interiors and elegant bedrooms, and this dog friendly hotel extends its warm hospitality to its guests' beloved canines too.

A selection of the rooms can accommodate dogs, up to two per room, so contact the hotel direct to book one or check availability. Each four-legged visitor is greeted with a complimentary doggie bag holding a ball and a bone. The hotel's petiquette asks you to pick up after your dog and take full responsibility for it during the stay. Across the hotel, rooms run from Club Double rooms in elegant neutral tones to Deluxe and Superior Suites with a separate living area, though the hotel doesn't say which of them take dogs.

Food and drink are in the hands of The Bear and Bistrot Pierre. The Bear first opened as an inn in 1662 and is once again a bustling riverside tavern, with beautifully restored wood panelling, two central fires and an iconic pewter bar top, plus cask ales and over 20 wines by the glass. Bistrot Pierre serves French-style modern classics and a hearty British breakfast, and has an alfresco terrace close to the river. Pets aren't permitted in the restaurant, guide dogs aside, and the pages don't mention dogs at The Bear, so check before you go.

When it is time to stretch your dog's legs, Stratford Greenway, which the hotel lists among its dog walking areas, sits 0.7 miles away on Wildpack's map; Welcombe Hills and Clopton Park is 1.9 miles off. The hotel also lists local groomers, pet food shops and vets for dog owners.

Facts checked October 2026 from the hotel's own website. Details can change, so please confirm anything important, especially the dog rules, with the hotel before you book.
