The George Inn

Norton Saint Philip, Somerset

Yes. Dogs can stay in selected rooms, up to 2 dogs per room.

A Grade I listed Tudor inn in Norton St Philip, with fireside spots for dogs to relax and the pub's own walks starting at the door.

With a history dating back to 1397, The George Inn is a Grade I listed Tudor inn in the heart of Norton St Philip, a village near Bath, and it was named AA Inn of the Year 2024 and 2025. This dog friendly inn welcomes four-legged guests inside and out, and there are lovely spots by the fireplace for dogs to relax after a long walk.

Several of the 13 ensuite bedrooms are set aside for dogs, so mention yours when you book and the team will make sure a suitable room is free; King Charles, up a spiral staircase, is one room that isn't dog friendly. Water bowls, treats and towels wait by the door for when you come in from a walk. Dogs stay on a lead in the pub and in the outdoor dining areas. Dogs mustn't be left unattended in the room.

Dogs can join you in the bar, the garden and select dining areas, and the inn suggests a Sunday roast as the reward after a walk. The kitchen cooks everything fresh on the day from locally sourced produce, with takes on pub classics such as Butcombe Gold beer-battered fish and chips, and the team are on hand to suggest a beer to go with your food. After a shorter walk there are lighter bites and bar snacks.

The Tributary Loop, one of the pub's own dog walks, takes 45 minutes from the door, out towards the village green and round on a riverside path, with local wildlife to watch for. Farleigh Hungerford Castle and River Frome Circular, from the Wildpack collection, lies 2 miles from the inn. Back at The George, the beer garden has views across Norton St Philip and the countryside, and some of the rooms have four-poster beds.
