The Mitre is a boutique hotel on the banks of the Thames at East Molesey, set opposite Hampton Court Palace with the river path at the front door. The dog friendly hotel part of it is practical: eight of the rooms are on ground level with access to the courtyard.
Those eight rooms take up to two dogs each, and the welcome pack holds a dog bed, bowls, treats and a towel. The public areas call for a lead, and no dogs can be left in the room unattended, which rules out a long dinner unless the dog is at the table with you.
Eating with a dog means the Coppernose cafe, the Boathouse, the Orangery or the terraces. The Coppernose sits directly opposite the palace and pours Pact Coffee alongside scrambled eggs on local sourdough, toasted melts and a cream tea with a bottomless pot; 1665 Brasserie and afternoon tea are the other side of the hotel's cooking.
