The Rose & Crown, a dog friendly inn in Snettisham1 / 8

The Rose & Crown

Snettisham, Norfolk

Yes. Dogs can stay overnight, up to 2 dogs per room.

A 14th century village inn in Snettisham, on The Wash, with log fires, old beams and well behaved dogs welcome to stay.

Twisting passages and hidden corners, low ceilings and old beams, pamment floors and log fires: The Rose & Crown has all of it, and the story goes that it was built in the 14th century to feed the men building the church up the road. Family owned and run, it sits opposite the village cricket pitch in Snettisham, on The Wash and north of King's Lynn, and this dog friendly inn opens its doors to well behaved dogs.

A room can take two well behaved dogs at most. The 16 bedrooms are individually decorated in seaside colours, with top quality beds, crisp white linen, comfortable chairs, books and magazines and the inn's own guide to the area, and every bathroom is en-suite with fluffy white towels and locally sourced toiletries. A sitting room reserved for residents, with armchairs and sofas, gives you somewhere quieter than the bars for a drink before dinner or a board game.

The same menu is served throughout The R&C and changes regularly with the produce of the area: mussels, oysters and samphire from Brancaster, herbs from the allotments of Snettisham, game, and a traditional roast on Sundays. Ales include Moongazer, Woodforde's Wherry and Abbot, with a guest ale that changes regularly. On where a dog may settle at mealtimes, the inn doesn't say, so put the question when reserving.

The walled garden was once the village bowling green and now has a pirate ship play area, and The Good Hotel Guide named the inn Editor's Choice Pub with Rooms in its 2024 edition. Snettisham Beach, which the inn calls just down the road, is 2.6 miles away by Wildpack's measure, which makes it the handiest dog friendly beach on our map, and Sandringham Country Park Woodland Walk, also on Wildpack, is 3.3 miles off.
