1 / 8The White Lion
Hebden Bridge, Calderdale
Yes. Dogs can stay in all rooms.
A 1657 inn in central Hebden Bridge, with free dog treats and doggy beer to buy in the bar, and the moors a walk from the front door.
A date stone from 1657 sits above the front door of The White Lion, one of the oldest buildings in Hebden Bridge, from the days when the town was little more than a packhorse bridge and this inn. Carts have worn grooves into the cobbles of its courtyard over the centuries. Today it is a dog friendly inn at the heart of town, with rolling hills and countryside all around and 14 rooms of individual design.
Four rooms are especially suited to dogs, each with its own front door, and the other rooms and suites can take dogs as well, after an additional clean that keeps them allergen free for the guests who follow. If you're travelling with more than one dog, the hotel doesn't say what it allows per room, so agree it at booking. The Heritage rooms in the main building have a roll top bath and their own lounge seating.
The bar area is the place to be with a dog, all copper top tables, open fires and a coaching inn atmosphere, with free treats for dogs, meals and snacks for them to buy, and even doggy beer. The bar dining menu runs from noon all day, every day, with homemade pub classics and traditional Yorkshire fare from local ingredients, a Sunday roast, and a Lion Cubs menu for children.
From the front door it's a comfortable walk up the moors to Stoodley Pike with your dog, or a flat stroll to the 400 acres of National Trust woodland at Hardcastle Crags. On Wildpack's map, Hardcastle Crags and Gibson Mill Circular is 1.2 miles from the inn.
Facts checked October 2026 from the hotel's own website. Details can change, so please confirm anything important, especially the dog rules, with the hotel before you book.
