Holdsworth House Hotel

Halifax, Calderdale

Yes. Dogs can stay in selected rooms, up to 2 dogs per room.

A Jacobean manor house hotel on the edge of Halifax, where the dog friendly rooms open straight onto three acres of gardens.

Holdsworth House was built in 1633, and this Grade II* manor on the edge of Halifax has been run by the same family since 1962. Its thirty-two bedrooms and suites sit in three acres of walled formal gardens and rustic paddocks, and it has been a dog friendly hotel for decades, welcoming well-behaved dogs with open arms in the bar and, on the lead, in the gardens.

Selected bedrooms are set aside for dogs, with direct access to the garden, and two dogs is the limit per room. A welcome treat waits in the room, there's a bowl for food or water, and a soft blanket is laid out if your dog would rather not sleep in its own bed. Dog towels are kept by the front and side entrances for muddy paws, with waste bags and an outdoor disposal point on site. Book the Pampered Pup Package and your dog also gets a welcome pack with a toy and a Holdsworth House biscuit, and a Yorkshire sausage for breakfast each morning.

Dogs aren't permitted in the restaurant, guide and assistance dogs aside; meals come to the Long Bar and the lounge areas with your dog settled beside you, and dogs may join you for afternoon tea in the Hall as well. From noon the Garden menu offers sharing platters, pizzas and beer-battered haddock, afternoon tea brings handmade pastries and scones baked to order, and the bar has gins, spirits and real ales.

Next door to the house, The Farmhouse Treatment Rooms offer massages, facials and an infrared sauna, with relaxation lounges in place of pools. Once your dog has explored the gardens on the lead, Wildpack's map puts Ogden Water and Ovenden Moor Circular 1.6 miles from the hotel and Shibden Park and Beacon Hill Circular 2.4 miles away.

Facts checked October 2026 from the hotel's own website. Details can change, so please confirm anything important, especially the dog rules, with the hotel before you book.
