Renovated with a contemporary twist on the traditional, this romantic, dog friendly cottage sleeps a pair of guests alongside a single dog, with walking and cycling from the front doorstep.
The entrance is where walking boots come off before you step into the cosy lounge, where a warming wood burner and tasteful soft furnishings invite everyone, the dog included, to sit back and relax. The ground floor is split level, and steps lead up from the lounge to the dining room, made for a supper for two on a night in. Upstairs, the double bedroom is fit for a king, with vaulted ceilings, exposed beams and Edison style lights, and off it is a luxurious bathroom.
Pretty sleeper steps rise from the lounge into the enclosed garden, a natural space with a wild bohemian feel and a real sun trap. It is lovely for an afternoon with a good book and the dog nearby, or for lighting the barbecue, and on summer evenings the music of the Longborough Festival Opera drifts up from just across the way. A winding pathway with wonderful views leads down to a gate in a high wall and the village beyond.
That path takes you and the dog down to the archetypal Cotswold village green, with its pub, church and village shop. Moreton-in-Marsh and Stow-on-the-Wold are close at hand, Lower Slaughter, Broadway, Chipping Campden and Burford are all nearby, and Batsford Arboretum and Chastleton House make fine local outings.
