Book now

Dovecote Cottage sits in the heart of Abercamlais, a Grade I listed mansion estate where guests are free to explore grounds rich in history, wildlife and natural beauty. Finished to a high standard, this dog friendly stone cottage sleeps six and welcomes three well-behaved dogs, medium-size at most, and the estate has a dog paddock where they are free to come off the lead and run.

You come in through a gated courtyard, and the rear door opens into a beautifully designed, well-equipped kitchen. A hallway leads on to a generously sized dining room, where picture windows overlook the estate grounds and the table seats six. The large lounge is where evenings gather, with corner seating in front of the wood burner, a Smart TV, books and board games, and the dogs spread out by the fire.

Upstairs, a generously sized landing has comfortable seating of its own, with three bedrooms and a home office off it. The master suite has dual-aspect windows looking onto the estate and the tennis courts, and the second king-size room has views across the grounds. Behind the cottage lies the enclosed garden, furnished with seats and a charcoal BBQ, and the brook at the bottom of it babbles away while the dogs explore.

The estate gives guests the River Usk for wild swimming and free fly fishing in season, an all-weather tennis court, a wild meadow walk for the dogs, and tours of the house and gardens by arrangement with the owner. Brecon lies 6 miles east, and between the river and canal paths and hilltops such as Fan Fawr and Pen-Y-Fan, walkers and their dogs have a great choice of landscapes.
