A boot room with dog washing facilities, a dog paddock where pets can be let off lead, and a private walled garden all around: Garden Cottage is dog friendly through and through. It stands within the Abercamlais Estate, a Grade I listed mansion estate near Brecon, and this five star cottage welcomes up to three dogs no larger than medium size.

The cottage sits at the end of a lane with no other properties nearby, and the only sound is the river. You come in through the kitchen door or the garden room, a sunny space for a slow morning coffee while the dogs settle at your feet. The lounge gathers round a wood burning stove, with a Smart TV for the evening, and opens onto the spacious boot room, so muddy dogs are clean and dry before they reach the fire.

The kitchen is large and well equipped, with a separate dining area, and downstairs there is a shower room with a WC as well. Upstairs are two beautifully finished bedrooms, a spacious king size and a twin, both with garden views, and a large bathroom with a bath. Outside, the walled garden has seating and a charcoal barbecue, and the dogs can explore while supper cooks.

Guests are free to roam the estate grounds, with a stretch of the River Usk for wild swimming, free fly fishing during the season, an all weather tennis court and a wild meadow walk the dogs will want every morning. River and canal paths wait to be followed, the Black Mountains, Fan Fawr and Pen y Fan are there to climb, and Brecon is 6 miles away. Tours of Abercamlais run between Easter and mid September.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Abercamlais Estate - Garden Cottage dog friendly?

Yes, Garden Cottage is five star dog friendly and welcomes up to three dogs. It's genuinely well set up for them too — there's a dedicated boot room with dog washing facilities, which is rare for a property of this size, plus a shower room right next door so both dogs and owners can clean up before hitting the carpet.

  • Are dogs allowed at Abercamlais Estate - Garden Cottage year round?

The listing doesn't specify seasonal restrictions, so it's worth contacting the property directly to confirm availability and any conditions around your stay. What we can say is that it's set up as a proper dog-friendly retreat rather than an afterthought, so you're in good hands.

  • What should I know before visiting Abercamlais Estate - Garden Cottage with my dog?

The cottage sits at the end of a private lane within the walled garden of the Abercamlais estate, so there's no passing traffic and no neighbouring properties to worry about — the walled garden itself is a great secure space for dogs to roam. Nearby, Llangorse Lake offers a circular path that keeps dogs well away from roads, and the shallow water and birdlife make it a rewarding outing. Up to three dogs are welcome, and the boot room with washing facilities means muddy walks are very much part of the plan.
