Book now

Abercamlais Lodge stands alone at the head of a private country estate deep within the Brecon Beacons National Park, a traditional stone, grotto-style lodge where a couple and one small dog have the place to themselves. Guests are free to explore the riverbanks of the Usk and the estate's wild meadows, and there is a dog paddock where dogs can be let off lead to run around freely, which makes this a dog friendly hideaway to treasure.

A traditional storm porch has a seat for pulling off muddy boots, and the large oak door opens into a cosy lounge with a wood burner, where the dog can settle while a good book or a film takes the evening. From the lounge there is a bespoke fitted kitchen, light and contemporary, with a dining space for two that has views and a rear door out to the enclosed garden.

The spacious bathroom has a deep bath with garden views and a separate shower, and the king-size bedroom waits at the end of the day. The enclosed garden comes with seating, a charcoal BBQ and a well-stocked herb garden for the cook, and the dog keeps close company out there. Guests also have a stretch of the River Usk for wild swimming, free fly fishing in season with your own rod licence, and an all-weather tennis court.

The lodge is 6 miles west of Brecon, known for its jazz festival, independent shops and magnificent cathedral. Waymarked paths follow the rivers and canals through countryside and mountains, so there is no end of walking for the dog, Llangorse Lake has rowing boats and kayaks for hire, and Hay-on-Wye and Crickhowell are within easy reach.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Abercamlais Estate - The Lodge dog friendly?

Yes, The Lodge is a five star dog-friendly stay that welcomes one dog. It's been thoughtfully set up for dogs from the start — there's a storm porch with a seat for removing muddy boots before you come inside, an enclosed garden, and direct access to a private stretch of the River Usk running through the estate grounds.

  • Are dogs allowed at Abercamlais Estate - The Lodge year round?

The listing doesn't specify seasonal restrictions, so it's worth contacting the property directly to confirm availability for your dates. Given the wood burner and enclosed garden, it's well set up for visits in cooler months as much as summer.

  • What should I know before visiting Abercamlais Estate - The Lodge with my dog?

The Lodge accepts one dog, so it's not suitable for multi-dog households. It's worth knowing that guests have access to the estate's own riverbank — a private mile or so of the River Usk with wild meadow either side — which is a genuine perk and not something many holiday lets offer. The enclosed garden is a useful bonus for keeping your dog secure when you're not out on the estate.
