Auckland House

Foulsham, Norfolk

A three bedroom cottage for five at Foulsham in Norfolk, with an enclosed garden, a wood burner, a games room and two dogs welcome.

Book now

This was two cottages before it was one. It went up as housing for a pair of estate workers on the Lord Hastings land and it still reads that way inside, with the beams and the odd thickness of wall that a knocked-through pair keeps, which is why a house sleeping five has more ground floor than it needs and two dogs have somewhere to be in all of it. Auckland House ended up as five across three bedrooms at Foulsham in Norfolk, dog friendly, with room on the booking for two dogs.

You come into the lounge, the wood burner at one side and an opening basket of logs supplied with the let, and the kitchen leads off that with the dining table and seating for everyone. A shower room finishes the ground floor, which means a wet dog and a wet person are both dealt with before the stairs. There is a games room too, with a pool table and a dart board in it, and it is what saves the afternoon when nobody wants to go out.

Upstairs the king, a twin and a single share a family bathroom with a corner bath. The garden behind is enclosed, lawn and patio, and the furniture stands under a purpose-built gazebo, so the outdoor table is usable on a day the outdoors is not. Two dogs get the lawn, with that thing standing over the table.

Foulsham keeps a conservation area at its middle, brick and pantile and a green, in the part of the county that is neither coast nor Broads and gets passed over for both. Two dogs get quiet lanes, field edges and a village that stays where it is.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Auckland House dog friendly?

Yes, Auckland House welcomes dogs — up to two can be added to your booking. The ground floor layout works well for dogs, with plenty of space from the lounge through to the kitchen, and an enclosed garden behind the house where they can roam freely.

  • Are dogs allowed at Auckland House year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth getting in touch with the owner directly to confirm availability for your dates. What we can say is that the setup — wood burner, enclosed garden and a shower room on the ground floor — makes it a practical choice whatever the season.

  • What should I know before visiting Auckland House with my dog?

A couple of things stand out as genuinely useful. There's a shower room on the ground floor, so muddy paws and wet dogs can be sorted before anyone heads upstairs — a small detail that makes a real difference after a walk. The garden is enclosed, which gives two dogs room to stretch out safely, and the quiet lanes and field edges around Foulsham are well suited to dogs who like a steady rural walk.
