Bright green rolling hills surround Beacons Field, a charming rural bungalow on a quiet country lane 2.5 miles from Brecon, with views of Pen y Fan and endless walks from its very doorstep. Five guests can stay, together with one dog, in this dog friendly home in the Brecon Beacons.

The sunroom has comfortable seating for curling up and looking out at the views, and the lounge beyond has more comfortable seating, a TV with DVD and a warming wood burner for cosy nights in, the dog asleep in front of it. The charming oak kitchen has everything to hand, with the dining room joined to it by an impressive archway. Coming back from a long walk with muddy boots or a wet dog, the owner suggests making use of the utility room and its handy sink, washing machine and tumble dryer, and the garage next door takes the outdoor kit and has secure storage for bikes. The ground floor also holds all three bedrooms: the master double, the twin, and a single that has amazing views.

The garden is part lawn and part furnished patio, an enclosed space where pets can stretch their legs, with a BBQ and outdoor furniture for eating outside. With the hills all around, this is where the dog lies out in the evening while everyone soaks up the great outdoors.

Pen y Fan, the national park's highest mountain, can be reached on foot straight from the door, and the River Usk is close by for an afternoon's fishing for brown trout and salmon, with the Usk Reservoir further off. Brecon itself makes a pleasant afternoon out, with pubs, restaurants and museums, and the dog will have earned its rest by the wood burner afterwards.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Beacons Field dog friendly?

Yes, Beacons Field welcomes one dog. The cottage has an enclosed garden with lawn and patio, and a utility room with a practical setup for muddy dogs — they come in through the utility and go no further until they've been sorted out.

  • Are dogs allowed at Beacons Field year round?

The listing doesn't specify seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth contacting the owner directly to confirm availability for your dates. What's clear is that the location suits dogs in any season — Mynydd Illtud common is right up the lane and offers wide, unfenced walking across grass, rush and standing pools.

  • What should I know before visiting Beacons Field with my dog?

One dog is included in the booking, and the setup here has been thought through: there's a utility room for cleaning up after walks, an enclosed garden for downtime, and a barbecue on the patio so your dog can be outside while food is on the go. The real draw is the common at the end of the lane — Mynydd Illtud is a broad green plateau where a dog can be off the lead for most of the walk, and the Roman fort at Y Gaer nearby is similarly relaxed.
