A private drive and a unique iron bridge over the River Elwy lead to Cartrefle, an architect designed riverside retreat in peaceful Llanfairtalhaiarn. It is a detached, single storey dog friendly house for eight people and two dogs, full of period features, with a hot tub in the enclosed garden and the river close by for fishing.

Inside there are two reception rooms, each with comfortable seating, a fabulous feature fireplace and a Smart TV, one of them with a wood burner, and that is where the dogs will be found after a day of exploring. At the far end of the house the kitchen and diner has feature French doors opening onto the garden. There are four bedrooms, two king size and two twins, all with Smart TVs, along with a shower room and a bathroom.

Outside, the attractive enclosed garden has the hot tub, a patio with a table and chairs, a gas BBQ and a fire pit for the evenings, and the dogs can lie out on the patio while supper cooks. Pop down to the river and there is fishing with a rod licence, and there is space for bicycles and paddleboards too.

Denbigh, the historic market town, is 6 miles away for eateries and independent shops, and Abergele, 5 miles off, has miles of sandy beaches, shingle Pensarn Beach and the Wales Coast Path for long walks with the dogs. Colwyn Bay, Conwy, Llandudno and Snowdonia National Park are all within reach, from the castle walls and the Great Orme to the summit of Snowdon.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Cartrefle dog friendly?

Yes, Cartrefle welcomes dogs — up to two. The garden is fully enclosed, so your dogs can be out on the patio safely while you make the most of the hot tub or the river access below.

  • Are dogs allowed at Cartrefle year round?

The listing doesn't specify seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth contacting the owner directly to confirm availability for your dates. Given the setup — enclosed garden, river access, and walking country on the doorstep — it's a place that suits dogs in any season.

  • What should I know before visiting Cartrefle with my dog?

The property takes up to two dogs, so if you're travelling with more it's worth checking with the owner in advance. The garden is enclosed with a patio, which gives your dogs a secure space outside, and the river is right below — expect early starts if yours are keen on water. The surrounding lanes and valley are quiet, with good walking up towards Llansannan and the hills beyond.
