Chapel Hill retreats - Elm

Aylburton, Gloucestershire

A ground floor stable conversion for two at Aylburton in the Forest of Dean, with its own enclosed front garden, a shared enclosed lawn for dogs and two dogs welcome.

Book now

Elm is one of two stables converted side by side inside a gated property at Aylburton, near Lydney, on the Severn side of the Forest of Dean. Two people and two dogs have it to themselves, a dog friendly conversion all on one ground floor level, with views out over the Severn estuary.

There are two outdoor spaces, and it helps to know which is which. The front garden is Elm's own, enclosed, with seating, furniture and a charcoal barbecue. Beyond it there is a large enclosed lawn set aside for dogs, which guests at both stables share, so two dogs can stretch their legs properly without a lead, allowing for the neighbours doing the same. The utility room, with a washing machine and a tumble dryer, is shared with Oak next door too.

Inside, the living space is open plan and light. The king size bed is part of it, with a smart television and a Bluetooth speaker, and the kitchen has an induction hob and a coffee pod machine, with a separate shower room off to the side. It is made for a short break. Arrive, walk the dogs round the lawn, and let the rest of the evening be a glass of something on the front garden while two dogs, walked to a standstill, make themselves comfortable indoors. Doggy extras are included in the welcome pack.

The Forest of Dean is ancient woodland crossed by trails, with the Sculpture Trail, Nagshead nature reserve and Puzzlewood all within a short drive, and plenty of forest for a dog to disappear into and come back from. The Wye Valley is close as well, with Tintern Abbey and the viewpoint at Symonds Yat.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Chapel Hill retreats - Elm dog friendly?

Yes, Elm is very much set up for dogs. Up to two dogs are welcome, the conversion is all on one level with no awkward stairs, and a doggy welcome pack is included on arrival. There's an enclosed front garden that's Elm's own, plus a larger shared enclosed lawn where dogs can run off the lead properly.

  • Are dogs allowed at Chapel Hill retreats - Elm year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions, so it's worth checking directly with Chapel Hill Retreats to confirm availability for your dates. Given the setup — enclosed outdoor spaces, a washing machine and tumble dryer for muddy kit — it feels well suited to year-round visits whatever the weather.

  • What should I know before visiting Chapel Hill retreats - Elm with my dog?

The enclosed lawn beyond the front garden is shared with guests staying in Oak, the stable next door, so your dogs may have canine neighbours during their off-lead time — worth bearing in mind if your dog isn't comfortable around unfamiliar dogs. The utility room with the washing machine and tumble dryer is also shared with Oak, which is handy to know after a muddy Forest of Dean walk. Two dogs maximum are permitted.
