Newport sits in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park on a sheltered bay, and the coast path can be walked straight from the door of Coastal Escape Cottage. Sleeping four, this dog friendly character cottage welcomes three dogs, with an enclosed garden that wraps around the front and side of the house.

The way in is through the kitchen and diner, a spacious room of exposed stone walls where the days get planned over breakfast. Off the hallway is a boot room and utility with a washing machine and a door of its own to the front garden, so three dogs back from the coast come in that way while the coats are hung up and the walking boots kicked off.

Evenings belong to the lounge, cosy and relaxing, its wood burner lit and a door leading out to the side garden. From October through to the end of April, an opening basket of logs is part of the stay. Up the stairs there is a light, airy double with a single daybed, the family bathroom, and a king size bedroom looking over the side garden to the woods beyond, with the bird song coming in. Walked and fed, the dogs settle by the burner for the night.

The large garden has furniture for a family picnic and space for three dogs between walks. Newport's butcher, deli, cafes and restaurants are all within walking distance of the cottage, and a beach is 1.5 miles away. Beyond the town the coastline holds an array of beautiful beaches for the dogs to work through, and the seaside resorts close by offer boat trips and coastal activities.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Coastal Escape Cottage dog friendly?

Yes, Coastal Escape Cottage welcomes up to three dogs. The cottage has an enclosed garden and a dedicated boot room with its own exterior door, so muddy paws and wet coats can be dealt with before anyone sets foot in the main living space.

  • Are dogs allowed at Coastal Escape Cottage year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so they appear to be welcome throughout the year. The wood burner is a particularly useful detail for winter visits — logs are left ready between October and April, which makes coming back off the coast path with tired dogs considerably more appealing.

  • What should I know before visiting Coastal Escape Cottage with my dog?

The boot room is your best friend here — it sits off the utility with its own door, so dogs can be cleaned up after walks before they reach the rest of the cottage. The water supply comes from a ground spring rather than the mains, and phone signal is patchy, so it's worth downloading maps or offline content before you arrive if you're planning to explore the coast path or the surrounding area with your dogs.
