Ceibwr Bay and the Witches Cauldron
West Wales
Ceibwr Bay sits on the Pembrokeshire coast path between Cardigan and Newport, a small, dramatic inlet where the cliffs have been carved into remarkable formations by the Atlantic. This 4 km out-and-back follows the coast path south from the bay to the Witches' Cauldron, a collapsed sea cave where the ocean surges into a roofless chasm in the rock, creating one of the most spectacular coastal features in Wales. The 73 m of climbing comes in short, sharp rises along the cliff edge, and the terrain is rough coastal path with uneven footing in places. The walk is short but the drama is concentrated, with the coastline becoming increasingly wild as you approach the Cauldron.
Dogs thrive on this dog friendly walk thanks to the raw coastal environment and the constant salt air and sea scent carried on the wind. The clifftop path is unfenced in places with serious drops, so reliable recall or a lead is essential near the edges. Off-lead potential is moderate on the open coastal sections, though livestock graze some of the adjacent fields and leads should be carried. The Witches' Cauldron itself is a powerful spectacle but the viewing points require care with dogs. There is no water access for swimming on this stretch. A compact walk that packs genuine coastal drama into a short distance, well suited to dogs comfortable on rough, exposed ground.

Frequently Asked Questions
Ceibwr Bay and the Witches' Cauldron is a rewarding walk for dogs, rated 7 out of 10 for dog friendliness. The raw coastal environment, constant sea air and varied terrain all make for an engaging outing, and the route is short enough at 4 km out and back to suit most dogs. That said, the clifftop path has serious unfenced drops in places and the Witches' Cauldron viewing points require real care, so it suits dogs with a calm, steady temperament rather than excitable or unpredictable ones.
Off-lead potential is moderate on the more open coastal sections, but there are important caveats. The clifftop path is unfenced in places with significant drops, so reliable recall is essential, and a lead is strongly recommended near the cliff edges and at the Witches' Cauldron itself. Livestock graze some of the adjacent fields, so you should keep leads to hand throughout the walk.
Parking is very limited at Ceibwr Bay itself, with space for around 10 cars, so arriving early or using the Moylgrove village car park (SA43 3BW) and walking the extra mile is worth considering. There are no facilities on the route, with the nearest toilets at the Moylgrove car park. There is no water access for swimming on this stretch, so bring enough water for your dog, and be prepared for rough, uneven coastal path underfoot.
